Ghibran Biography

Ghibran Education

Both the Piano and Music Theory RSA 8 exams from Trinity College London have been successfully completed by him. He also studied classical composition and film scoring at Singapore’s LASALLE College of the Arts with Australian composer Lindsay Vickery. He took a job as an in-house composer for an animation studio after being offered the position. He opened his own shop in the year 2000 and produced more than seven hundred and fifty commercials at that time.

Ghibran Early Life

This is where Ghibran spent his formative years. His father’s catastrophic loss in business forced the family to move to Chennai when he was in the ninth grade. He put his education on hold and began working multiple jobs to provide for his family. Ghibran claimed that he first became interested in music at the age of eight or ten, after watching Yanni play on television. He initially enrolled in music school but had to withdraw due to financial difficulties. He then began taking piano lessons from Paul Augustine and studying the instrument on the side.

He studied classical composition and cinema scores at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, with Australian composer Lindsay Vickery, and he earned RSA Grade 8 certificates in both piano and music theory from Trinity College, London. His work as an in-house composer for animations earned him a two-year contract. He opened his own recording studio in the year 2000 and worked there for a total of seven hundred and fifty commercials.

He supplemented his income in Singapore by writing music for various media outlets. After he finished up, he got a job with the Singapore Wood and Percussion Instruments Orchestra. There weren’t many advertising jobs waiting for him when he got back to India.

Ghibran Career

His first film score was for the 2011 Tamil film Vaagai Sooda Va, and he has since scored multiple films in both Tamil and Telugu. The Telugu film Run Raja Run was his debut. Ghibran rose to prominence when Kamal Haasan offered him the chance to direct the high-budget project Vishwaroopam II. Haasan was so pleased with Ghibran’s work that he also hired him to direct Uttama Villain and Papanasam.

The films Vatthikuchi, Kutti Puli, and Naiyaandi all featured original scores by Ghibran in 2013. His 2014 works included Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah and Amara Kaaviyam. His first film in the Telugu language, titled Run Raja Run, was also a success. Behindwoods.com claims that his contributions to the film were well-received by audiences and that the soundtrack’s singles remained at the top of the charts for a considerable amount of time. Kamal Haasan approached him about composing the score for Vishwaroopam II, as well as his upcoming films Uttama Villain and Papanasam, the Tamil adaptation of Drishyam.

Currently, Ghibran owns a studio in Chennai and commutes there, as well as to Mumbai and Singapore, for his recording projects.
