He got his start in the industry working for A. Venkatesh, with whom he worked on the Mahaprabhu-123 and Selva projects. Soon after, he became Director Vikraman’s assistant on the set of the family drama film Vaanathaippola. In 2001, he made his directorial debut with the film Aanandham, which starred Mammootty. The film was a huge success, earning him several awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Film in Tamil, the Cinema Express Award for Best Film in Tamil, and two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards.

When his 2001 film Run, which starred Madhavan, was a financial success, he wanted to reteam with the actor. However, when Madhavan was unavailable, he cast Ajith Kumar in the starring role and titled the film Ji. His next film, Sandakozhi, which again starred Vishal, did very well at the box office. Actor Vikram eventually joined Bheemaa, although the film’s initial January 2008 release date was repeatedly put back. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the score for his sixth film, Paiyaa, which stars Karthi and Tamannaah.

He directed the 2012 action masala film Vettai, which starred Arya and Madhavan. He also worked in the film industry in Andhra Pradesh, where his Telugu translations of Run, Sandakozhi, and Paiyaa (respectively titled Run, Pandem Kodi, and Awara) were huge hits.
