P. Vinod Kumar and T. K. Usha Kumari, both lawyers, welcomed their daughter Parvathy on 7 April 1988 in Calicut, Kerala. One of her siblings is named Aum Thiruvothu Karunakaran. When she was young, her family relocated to Thiruvananthapuram, where she finished her schooling. She had a fruitful career as a TV host at Kiran TV in Thiruvananthapuram, a 24-hour music channel. She also has Bharatanatyam dance training.

As a college student, Parvathy made her acting debut in the 2006 Malayalam film Out of Syllabus. Her second novel, Rosshan Andrrews’ Notebook, was a hit with the press because of its subject matter of adolescent pregnancy. She was one of the three lead actresses, along with Roma Asrani and Mariya Roy, chosen from among five thousand submissions.

She also appeared in the ensemble cast of Sathyan Anthikkad’s comedy-drama Vinodayathra (2007), alongside the likes of Dileep, Mukesh, and Meera Jasmine. It was the Kannada film Milana, in which she made her debut as a leading actress, that was a financial triumph. They started filming in April of 2007 with her as a surprise addition to the cast with Puneet Rajkumar. The film was met with mixed reviews, although one critic singled out the actress for her performance, saying, “She has been a beautiful selection for the character, and she has that proper attitude for the job.” It was such a financial success that the picture played at a Bangalore multiplex for 500 consecutive days.

She played the lead female role in Sibi Malayil’s Flash alongside Mohanlal and Indrajith, and she said before the film’s release that she hoped it would be her big break in Malayalam cinema. Unfortunately, the movie was met with critical and box office rejection upon its initial release. Parvathy was cast as the protagonist, a young Tamil rural girl named Maari, in Sasi’s Poo (2008), starring with Srikanth.

Parvathy is a south Indian actress who has done training in the dancing form of Bharatnatyam. Take Off, Charlie, Koode, Bangalore Days, Ennu Ninte Moideen, and Notebook are just a few of the Malayalam films in which she has appeared. Parvathy was the first Indian actor to win the Special Jury Award for Best Female Actor at the International Film Festival of India for her portrayal of Sameera in the critically acclaimed film Take Off.

She was honoured at the National Film Awards with a Special Jury Mention and the Best Actress award, as well as the Filmfare Award and the Kerela State Film Award for Best Actress in Malayalam.
