Pasupathy Early Life
In 1969, Pasupathy Masilamani entered this world in the northern Chennai, India neighbourhood of Maduravoyal. Joining the theatre company “Koothu-P-Pattarai” in 1984, he remained with them till 1997. In fact, he attended school and matured there until he began his career in movies. During his time at the film school, he met and became friends with actor Nassar, who also eventually joined the Koothu-P-Pattarai.
Pasupathy Career
At one point during his time at Marudhanayagam, Nassar inquired as to whether or not he had any interest in movies. After meeting Kamal Haasan, Pasupathy was cast as the film’s antagonist in Marudhanayagam. “That was the first time I was in front of the camera,” Pasupathy said. After the cancellation of Marudhanayagam, Nasser’s Mayan, on which he also worked, became his debut.
In Virumaandi, he played his breakout role as Kothaala Thevar. Later in his career, he started playing villains in movies like Dhool, Sullan, Madhurey, and Thirupaachi. Subsequently, he pushed out into humour with films like Mumbai Xpress and Majaa. Veyyil, for which he received his first leading part, won the National Film Award. In addition, he starred as the lead in the films Raman Thediya Seethai (in which he portrayed a blind radio DJ) and Kuselan (in which he played a village barber). He spent six months in the gym getting into fighting shape for his role as Kombhoodhi, the 18th-century warrior chief of a village, in Aravaan, a period action drama.
He received acclaim for his performance as Annachi in the 2013 Tamil film Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara. He appeared in The Last Vision, an independent English film developed by young filmmakers in Kerala specifically for festival screenings. Upcoming films starring Pasupathy include Rohini’s Appavin Meesai, in which he portrays a therukooththu artiste; Sakunthalaavin Kaadhalan, in which he plays a positive part; Sathya Prabhas Pinisetty’s Yagavarayinum Naa Kaakka, the brother of actor Aadhi; Thangam Saravanan’s Anjala; Vetrimaran’s un A stage production of Ponniyin Selvan premiered in 2014, with Pasupathy in the role of Aditya Karikalan.
