In Apoorva Raagangal (1975), directed by K. Balavhander, he made his film debut playing Srividya’s abusive husband. Rajnikanth has been honored with six awards at this year’s Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, including four for Best Actor. He has been honored with both the Padma Bhushan (2000) and the Padma Vibhushan (2007), India’s highest civilian honors (2016).
