Rajiv Menon is a director of advertising headquartered in Chennai who is married to Latha Menon, another director of advertising. Saraswathi and Lakshmi are the couple’s two daughters. Menon claims that A. R. Rahman, the composer, and Mani Ratnam, the film director, are two of his closest friends, and that their friendship inspires him to succeed in his own career.

Rajiv Menon Career

A major break came for Rajiv Menon with Mani Ratnam’s Bombay. He made his directorial debut with the 1997 film Minsara Kanavu, which starred Prabhu Deva, Arvind Swamy, and Kajol. Since he’s always had a passion for commercial production, he launched his career as a photographer in the advertising industry and went on to direct several successful TV spots. Furthermore, he is a well-known figure in the Indian advertising industry. Many well-known jingles, including those for Airtel, Colgate, Palmolive, Titan, Asian Paints, Raymonds, and Coca-Cola, were written by the duo of Rajiv Menon and A R Rahman. His production company was ranked third in India in 2006, according to Economic Times Mumbai. A year later, the film had climbed to number two, and he had moved on to work for advertising powerhouses like Ogilvy & Mather, Lintas, Rediffusion, Hindustan Thompson Associates, and Zero Degree Design Studio, Rubecon, and Situations Advertising, among others. As of right now, he may be found at the set of the film Sarvam Thaala Mayam.

Many directors, including Mani Ratnam (Bombay, Guru), Shyam Benegal, and Girish Karnad, have praised his versatility as a cameraman (Cheluvi). His newest film, Guru, was directed by Mani Ratnam.

As Menon’s debut directorial effort, Minsaara Kanavu was a huge success, and it also marked Prabhu Deva’s first nomination for a National Award in the category of Choreography. K.S. Chitra’s “hoo lalala” also got a national award, and A.R. Rahman was honoured for Best Music. He followed up his debut film with the star-studded Kandukondain Kandukondain. He not only helmed the film, but wrote the story and screenplay as well. Shankar Mahadevan received his first National Award for his performance of the song “Sandhana Thendril” from this film.

In addition to Rajiv Menon Productions, he also founded Mindscreen Film Institute, a company that manufactures and distributes filmmaking tools for use in commercials, independent features, and theatres. Maniratnam’s most recent project was the Indian film Guru. He has appeared in the Malayalam film Harikrishnans and in his own film Minsara Kanavu, albeit for brief periods of time.

Recent projects of his include a fantastic audio-visual treat about seven outstanding carnatic musicians. The modern musicians T.M. Krishna and Bombay Jayashree released their coffee table book “Voices Within,” and this documentary was filmed to commemorate the occasion. The book features some extremely rare photographs of some of the greatest Gurus of Carnatic music, all of whom are profiled here. Rajiv Menon’s documentary perfectly encapsulates the unique aspects of these musical legends.
