During her time as a college student, Rakul Preet Singh began her career as a model and made her film debut in the film Kannada Gilli (2009). She competed in the 2011 Femina Miss India competition, where she placed fifth and won five titles (including Miss Indiatimes People’s Choice, Miss Talented Female, Femina Miss Beautiful Smile, and Femina Miss Beautiful Eyes).
She then decided to pursue acting as a career, and she made her debut in the telugu film Keratam that same year, as well as in the Tamil film Thadaiyara Thaakka the year after that. Yaariyan, her 2014 Bollywood debut, was met with more positive reviews.
