Ronit Roy Biography

Ronit Roy Education

Ronit Roy travelled to Mumbai after finishing his degree in hotel management in an effort to launch an acting career.

Ronit Roy Early Life

Ronit Bose Roy was born in Nagpur to Dolly Bose Roy and Brothindranath Roy on October 11, 1965, but he spent the majority of his early life in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. At the urging of veteran director Subhash Ghai, one of Roy’s early sponsors, Roy began his career as a management trainee at Mumbai’s Sea Rock Hotel. Despite appearing in a number of films throughout the 1990s, Roy never achieved wide commercial success.

Roy wed model-turned-actress Neelam Singh in 2003, and the pair now has two kids, Aador (now eleven) and Agasthya Bose Roy (9). From his first marriage to Joanna, Roy also has an older daughter named Ona. He’s the older sibling of Rohit Roy, who’s a well-known TV actor.

Ronit Roy Career

His early career was hindered by a series of flops, despite the fact that his acting debut, the love romance Jaan Tere Naam (1992), was a commercial triumph. Before his recent career recovery, he appeared in several noteworthy films, such as Army (1996), which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Sreedevi, and Kisna (2001), which starred Aamir Khan (2005).

With the release of Udaan in 2010, Roy’s acting career was revitalised. In the film, he played the controlling, abusive father of a 17-year-old son. Roy’s turn as the villain was universally praised, further solidifying his reputation as a formidable character actor. This performance also netted him a nomination and victory for Best Supporting Actor at the prestigious Filmfare Awards.

He has since appeared in the films Student of the Year (2012), Boss (2013), 2 States (2014), Ugly (2014), Kaabil (2017), Sarkaar 3 (2017), Munna Michael (2017), Lucknow Central (2017), LoveYatri (2018), Arjun Patiala (2019), and Bhoomi (2019), among others, in supporting roles (2021).

Roy says that performing on TV shows has revitalised his career. His performance as the slightly shady yet charismatic Rishabh Bajaj in the Balaji Telefilms show Kasauti Zindagii Kay in 2002 was so well praised that the show’s producers decided to make him a regular cast member. Roy became one of the most well-known and financially secure figures in the small screen industry after starring in hit shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Adaalat. Many nonfiction/reality TV shows have had Rohit as a competitor, judge, or host. After appearing as a special guest on the second season of Koffee with Karan, Roy went on to compete in the iconic celebrity dance show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and host the culinary reality show Kitchen Champion, for which he was nominated for an Indian Telly Award in the category of Best Anchor.
