Samantha Ruth Prabhu Career
Samantha’s first feature film was Ye Maaya Chesave, a Telugu film directed by Gautham Menon (2010). Filmed in Tamil at the same time as Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (2010), it was much anticipated because it marked the first time that Gautham Menon and composer A. R. Rahman had worked together. The actress was cast after a successful audition in the middle of August 2009. She worked on the film in both India and the United States. The movie premiered on February 26, 2010.
After the film’s release, she said that Menon had a “crucial part in moulding her as an actress,” instructing her on how to act naturally and confidently in front of the camera regardless of whether or not the scene involved any lines of language. Samantha played Jessie, the film’s heroine, a Malayali Saint Thomas Christian girl residing in Hyderabad who falls in love with the male protagonist, Naga Chaitanya. The film, and Samantha’s performance in it, were both met with widespread critical acclaim upon their respective releases.
Samantha was called a “scene-stealer” and “alluring” by Sify’s critics, who also said, “she was the girl to watch out for.” Idlebrain.com’s Jeevi praised Samantha’s performance, calling her film’s debut “one of the best heroine debuts in Telugu cinema,” and remarking that her “minute expressions she provided told volumes about her.” Both the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Actress and the Nandi Award were bestowed upon her for her performance in Ye Maaya Chesave. In the Tamil version of the film, Samantha played a little role as an assistant director who eventually becomes an actress. Success in both the Telugu and Tamil versions of the film encouraged Samantha to take on more challenging roles.
