Shaji Kailas Career

Although Shaji Kailas began “News” at the same time as “Sunday 7 PM,” “News” (1989) ended up being his debut release, which was then followed by “Sunday 7 PM.” These movies did not find a wider audience. Renji Panicker, a scriptwriter, had a special touch, and five of the movies he and Shaji worked on together smashed box office records. Shaji and Renji worked together on three films in 1993, “Sthalathe Pradhana Payyans,” “Ekalavyan,” and “Mafia,” which earned gold and broke box office records. They used the same magic again in 1994 and 1995 when they released “Commissioner” and “The King.” Later, Shaji collaborated with Ranjith to form a new group that had success at the box office with the films “Aaraam Thampuran” (1997), “Narasimham” (2000), and “Valliettan.” Mammootty’s character in “Valliettan,” which Ranjith specifically designed for him, was a tremendous success. Similar to this, Ranjith created another stereotypical role for Mohanlal in “Narasimham,” which produced two massive hits in a row in 2000, in an effort to appease the actor’s fans. Following the success of the first two movies, Shaji attempted to direct the 2001 Tamil film “Vaanchinathan,” however the movie struggled at the box office. Then, Shaji experienced a setback in his career as a result of his film’s commercial failure, with many of them being pulled from theatres due to poor audience reception.

After that, Shaji took a short hiatus. In 2004, he resumed his career as a Tamil film director and produced the box office bomb “Jana,” starring Ajith Kumar. Later, he switched to Telugu, where Vishnu Manchu made his Telugu debut with the film “Vishnu.” Even this movie didn’t do well financially. He delivered several flops, including “The Don,” “Drona 2010,” and “Simhasanam,” and his efforts to turn things around failed. He turned to comedy genre films after delivering a string of the biggest flops, but even then he lost his Midas touch at the box office. Numerous releases in 2014 and 2015 only served to demonstrate that his movies don’t have the same box office appeal. He was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on August 15, 1965.
