Verdict
Telugu movie makers mostly tend to write commercial movies other than trying something new with the premise. Sridevi Shoban Babu trailer has already given the impression that it will be a commercial family entertainer movie and movie begins on the same note with a narration introducing the characters.
As most of the movie is shot in a village, we feel the vibe of village backdrop and the behavior’s of people living in a village. Few dialogues will make us laugh in the first half, but the story never moves forward until the interval block. Interval blocks sets up the expectations with a simple revelation, but that is only for few minutes, as movie once again becomes routine with many scenes that have been watched in many Telugu movies earlier and climax will end as expected with too much of drama to handle.
While it comes to acting performances, actor Santosh Shoban is definitely a potential actor who can perform well in every movie and his dialogue delivery is a biggest advantage, but he may have to rethink about his story selection and character designs. Gouri G Kishan, who impressed with “96” is making her debut in Telugu with this movie and she was pretty decent in her role. Rohini impressed with her performance as always. Nagababu was decent in his role and all other actors did their part well as required for the characters.
Technically, Sridevi Shoban Babu movie looks okay. Music composed by Kamran is not very good, but songs are decent and background score was perfect fit for this movie. Cinematography by Siddharth Ramaswamy is good and he was able to capture the essence of a village perfectly. Editing was crisp and production values are good.
Director Prasanth Kumar Dimmala took up an age old story and tried to present with some comedy and emotions added to it. His narration and making style looks old fashioned and doesn’t excite the audience while watching the movie in theatres.
Overall, Sridevi Shoban Babu is a decent movie with a simple story and setup. If you would like to watch a simple rom-com, you can watch this movie in theatres this weekend.
