The storyline of the show is heavily inspired by Tarak Mehta’s columns from the Gujarati weekly newspaper Chitralekha titled “Duniya Ne Undha Chashma.” In this tale, we meet the residents of Gokuldham Society in Mumbai, a place where people of many backgrounds and customs coexist peacefully and, should trouble arise, turn to each other for support.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Story
The show follows a diverse group of people who all live in the same apartment complex in Mumbai’s Goregaon East neighborhood, called the Gokuldham Co-operative Housing Society.
In the show, Gokuldham is also called “Mini India.” As the story progresses, we see the people of Gokuldham encounter many challenges and work to overcome them. Sometimes, the broadcast will focus on societal topics.
Each episode centers around Jethalal getting into some sort of jam and having to rely on his best friend Taarak Mehta, whom he refers to as his “Fire Brigade,” to come to his rescue. Members of the society treat one another like family, sharing in one other’s joys and sorrows and offering support when needed. Everyone in Gokuldham gets together to celebrate the holidays and throws parties to mark the occasion.
