Verdict
Dance Choreographer who earlier directed movies have debuted with some light hearted movies and later on continued to make some commercial movies. Director Brinda also started her movie with a light hearted romantic drama movie “Hey Sinamaka” and now has delivered a pure mass masala entertaining commercial movie. Makers should have informed the media that movie is a remake of super hit Malayalam movie “Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil” before the release.
Thugs movie has the plot that can connect with the mass audience and the back stories for all main characters in the movie were well written. Movie looks interesting in the starting portions with the introduction of main characters, but slows down after few minutes with some regular scenes in the jail. Interval block of the movie looks okay and second half narration feels draggy despite few good scenes and ends with a satisfactory climax.
While it comes to acting performances, Hridhu Haroon is making his debut in Tamil/Telugu with this movie, but he looked professional. He has to churn up his acting skills a lot more to make a special place among a lot of talented actors in the film industry. Bobby Simha is a gifted actor and when it comes to playing a mass character he looks more natural. Anaswara Rajan was decent in her limited character. Munishkanth, RK Suresh and all other actors did their part as required for the characters.
Technically Thugs movie looks okay. Songs composed by Sam CS are not so special and memorable, but the background music is one of the plus points in the movie. Cinematography by Priyesh Gurusamy is another highlight in the movie and hi visuals will make us to travel into the world of “Thugs”. Editing could have been better, if few scenes were trimmed. Production values are okay.
Director Brinda tried to deliver a mass commercial entertainer with raw characterizations this time and she is successful to some extent. But she could have chosen an original script instead of remaking a hit movie.
Overall, Thugs is a good action thriller that has all the elements to entertain the mass audience in the theatres.
Plus Points:
- Cinematography
- Background Music
- Bobby Simha
Minus Points:
- Screenplay
- Dragged Scenes
Rating: 2.75/5
