V.Manikandan was born on January 13, 1968, in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and is an Indian cinematographer. V. Jeevananthan, his sibling, has won a National Film Award for his book Thiraicheelai on Cinema. Several major Bollywood and Tamil films have had him step in as their cinematographer. He has shot over 3,000 commercials and is widely recognised for his work in the industry.

Beginning his acting career in Tamil movies. His first feature film was the 1994 Tamil production Atharman. He then spent the next two years acting in the Tamil films Sarigamapathani (1995), Sengottai (1996, and Mr. Romeo (1997). (1996).
In 1995, Manikandan also dropped an album titled Sree Rudra. He made his directorial debut with the 1997 Malayalam film Asuravamsam. The 2003 and 2004 Hindi blockbusters Kuch Naa Kaho and Main Hoon Na both featured him in key roles. The cinematography of Manikandan was recognised in 2005 with a Filmfare Award for Best Cinematography in a Tamil Film. Om Shanti Om, a Hindi film he starred in, was nominated for a Filmfare Award in 2007.
His camerawork was featured in the Bollywood comedy Billu Barber (2009). The Hindi film “Raavan,” starring Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and “Vikram,” earned the Apsara Award for finest cinematography, and it was shot by Manikandan. The Tamil film he worked on, titled “Raavanan,” won the Asia Pacific Cine Awards (ASPA) for best cinematography that year. Simultaneously, he acted as the cinematographer in the Hindi film “Khatta Meetha” and launched the collections Sinkaravel and Devapadam 2.
Manikandan won the ninth annual Central European Bollywood Award (ACEBA2012) for best cinematography in 2011 for his work on the Indian science fiction superhero film ‘Ra One,’ which was directed by Anubhav Sinha and starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami, Armaan Verma, and Tom Wu, among others. Manikandan, along with Jisha Nevin, Mohan Sithara, P. Jayachandran, and Vineeth Sreenivasan, contributed to the 2013 music compilation Pottas Bomb.
Manikandan appeared in the Telugu film Mukunda (2014). Films like “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” (2013) and “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” (2009) featured his cinematography (2015). Mani Ratnam and ‘S. Shankar,’ two of the most revered producers in the business, both had kind words to say about Manikandan.
