V.Manikandan was born on January 13, 1968, in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, and is an Indian cinematographer. V. Jeevananthan, his sibling, has won a National Film Award for his book Thiraicheelai on Cinema. Several major Bollywood and Tamil films have had him step in as their cinematographer. He has shot over 3,000 commercials and is widely recognised for his work in the industry.

Beginning his acting career in Tamil movies. His first feature film was the 1994 Tamil production Atharman. He then spent the next two years acting in the Tamil films Sarigamapathani (1995), Sengottai (1996, and Mr. Romeo (1997). (1996).
In 1995, Manikandan also dropped an album titled Sree Rudra. He made his directorial debut with the 1997 Malayalam film Asuravamsam. The 2003 and 2004 Hindi blockbusters Kuch Naa Kaho and Main Hoon Na both featured him in key roles.
