Amitabh Bachchan Early Life

On October 11, 1942, in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, Amitabh was born under the name Amitabh Harivansh Rai Shrivastava. Some of the many nicknames for him include Munna, Big B, Angry Young Man, AB Sr., Amith, and the Shahenshah of Bollywood. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 1984, the Padma Bhushan in 2001, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015, all from the Indian government.

His father, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, is a Hindu, while his mother, Teji Bachchan, is Sikh, hence he was born into a Kayastha Hindu family. His stepmother’s name is Shyama. Originally named Inquilaab after the Urdu phrase Inquilab Zindabad, Amitabh’s name was changed to Amitabh at the recommendation of his father’s friend and fellow poet Sumitranandan Pant. His real last name was Shrivastava, but his father legally changed it to Bachchan so that his son could pursue a career in show business. Ajitabh Bachchan is his sibling and younger brother. He married Jaya Bhaduri on June 3, 1973, and the couple has two children: actress Shweta Bachchan and actor Abhishek Bachchan.

Amitabh Bachchan Career

Anwar Ali, a role he played in the 1969 Bollywood film Saat Hindustani, was his first big break as an actor. For the sake of his close buddy, Rajiv Gandhi, he entered politics in 1984. In the ninth Lok Sabha elections, he ran against Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna for the Allahabad seat. With 68.2 percent of the vote, his victory margin was the largest in general election history. After only three years, he decided to leave politics, deeming it a cesspool and resigning as a result.

He temporarily stepped away from his acting profession to launch Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd. (ABCL), which aims to provide services and products across the whole Indian entertainment sector. The business began making movies in 1996, and thus far they’ve all been flops.

While the ABCL-produced Bollywood film Mrityudata marked his acting return in 1997, it was met with critical and commercial failure. ABCL wasted millions of dollars as the primary sponsor of the Miss World competition in Bangalore in 1996. ABCL eventually entered administration and was deemed a defunct business by the Indian Industries board. When he needed money, Indian politician Amar Singh came through for him, and Amitabh eventually began backing Singh and his Samajwadi Party.

Season 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 of the Indian game show Kaun Banega Crorepati all had him as their host. Along with Aaj Ki Raat Hai Zindagi, an Indian entertainment talk show, he also hosted the third season of the popular reality show Bigg Boss in 2009. Apart from that, he has appeared in a few television shows, including Yudh (2014), in which he played the role of Yudhisthir Sikarwar, and Astra Force (2016-2017), in which he played the role of Astra.
