He grew up in Gadarwara, Narshingpur district, Madhya Pradesh, where he also completed elementary education. Graduate studies at Dr. Hari Singh Gaur University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, were where he earned his degree.

His performance as Lajja Pandey in the film Sangharsh earned him another Filmfare award in 2000: Best Villain.
