Movie Verdict

If you have watched Rohit Shetty comedy films that worked well at the box-office are more of a slapstick comedy, which generates humor with some clumsy situations between the actors. Cirkus movie follows the same path to create comedy in the scenes but fails to make the audience laugh as these kind of scenes are presented in few other movies in Hindi. Story of this movie will definitely remind us of ‘Judwaa’ that got released in 1997 starring Salman Khan in the lead role. Narration of the movie is as old as the story of this movie and creates no interest at any stage of the film.

Movie has some brilliant actors who can entertain audience just with their body language and single liners, but Rohit Shetty who always sticks to o routine content and senseless comedy scenes once again wasted these actors in this movie. Situations have completely changed now, as audience have access to watch different movies on OTT platforms and Cirkus offers nothing new in terms of story, making and comedy scenes. Movie is a let down in every aspect be it the story, narration, uninteresting twists, senseless comedy scenes and everything. only thing that excites in this movie is its connection with the Golmaal franchise to make this into a Rohit Shetty cinematic universe.

While it comes to acting performances, Ranveer Singh performance looks very over the top in many scenes from the movie. Ranveer styling also looks awkward on screen. Though Ranveer tried his best to entertain with his energy, many scenes in the movie with poor writing made those scenes look very dumb. Jacqueline Fernandez failed to perform as always and maintained same expression in most of the scenes and just remained a glamour addition to the movie. Pooja Hegde is another let down in the movie, as she wasn’t able to create any kind of impact with her acting. Sanjay Mishara, Varun Sharma, Johny Lever are few actors who will make us laugh with their comedy timing. All other actors did their part well as required for the story of the movie.

Technically Cirkus movie looks okay. Songs composed by different music directors Devi Sri Prasad, Badshah, DJ Chetas, Lijo George are not that impressive, but can cheer up the mood of the audience for few minutes in theatres. Background music composed by Amar Mohile is okay. Cinematography by Jomon T John is good, but the color grading of the film is what makes it look very odd with overly saturated colors in every frame of the movie. Art department and costume designers of the movie needs to be appreciated for their efforts in recreating 1960’s setup in the movie. Production values of the movie are very high.

Director Rohit Shetty has failed to entertain the audience this time with his routine comedy scenes and the story that has been copied several old movies. He needs to take more care of his stories and making style to entertain the audience from now on.

Overall, Cirkus is a routine comedy film with few laughs through out the running minutes. If you like to watch Rohit Shetty kind of comedy movies, you can watch this movie in theatres.

Plus Points:

  • Art Direction
  • Costume design

Minus Points:

  • Routine Story
  • Routine Narration
  • Boring comedy scenes

Rating: 2.25/5
