Namit Das was born to Chandan Dass and Yamini Das in 1984, making him an Indian actor. His ancestors include some famous musicians and vocalists. The legacy of his family can be traced back to his maternal grandfather, K.Pannalal, who was a radio broadcaster for Doordarshan and Delhi All India Radio. His father, Chandan Dass, is an accomplished ghazal performer. His maternal uncles Jaidev Kumar (a renowned Punjabi music director) and Ajay K.Pannalal (a renowned Punjabi film director) are both prominent figures in their own fields. Namit Das has been trained in classical music by his father Chandan Dass and Bhavdeep Jaipurwale so that he can carry on the family tradition of music.

Though he would rather be on the stage than in a recording studio, he and Anurag Shankar have just released an album with five songs. Namit Das has collaborated with notable directors including Imogen Butler-Cole, Atul Kumar, and Vikram Kapadia on productions like Much Ado About Nothing, Chairs, Bombay Talkies, etc.
