R. Velraj Education

Velraj was born in Thirunagar, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India on October 21, 1969, with the astrological sign of Libra. A graduate of PKN Boys Higher Secondary School in Thirunagar, where he had previously studied. When Velraj was done with high school, he enrolled at Madurai Sourashtra College in Madurai, India, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

He always knew he wanted to be a photographer; in college, he was able to make the necessary connections and begin working as Tirru’s assistant on a few Tamil language films; the two even shared an “Aalavandhan” together. On the 23rd of March, 1931, with the film “Shaheed,” he entered the Hindi film industry. Following “Supari,” our go-to comedy of all time, “Phir Hera Pheri,” was released. He took home the Vijay Award for Best Cinematographer for the film Polladhavan in 2007. “Malabar Wedding” and “Kandhar” are two Malayalam language films he was involved with.

Both Aadukalam and Asuran, their most recent collaboration, were the result of Velraj and Vetrimaaran’s continuing collaboration. Velaiilla Pattadhari was his first film as a director, and it featured Dhanush and Amala Paul with music by Anirudh. Velraj received multiple best first-time director honors for his efforts on this picture. Thanga Magan, his second film as director, premiered in 2015.
