He participated in the 1998 release of the Malayalam movie “Pranayavarnangal” as an assistant cinematographer. The film’s director was Sibi Malayil. Rajeev gained a lot of knowledge from him before making his independent Bollywood debut in 2001. He was the cinematographer for Madhur Bhandarkar’s film Chandni Bar (the movie depicted the gritty life of the underworld and dance bars of Mumbai, it was a multi-starrer movie). The movie was a hit.
