Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, born on July 7, 1963 in Delhi, India. In 1986, he founded the advertising firm Flicks Motion Picture Limited and began making ads for companies like Toyota, Pepsi, Coke, BPL, and American Express for broadcast on television.

Aks, a supernatural thriller released in 2001, marked Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s directorial debut. Many praised the film’s cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Raveena Tandon, Nandita Das, and Manoj Bajpayee, but it didn’t do well at the box office.
In 2004, he founded ROMP (Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures) to produce films independently; his first film under that label was the coming-of-age Indian drama Rang De Basanti. The film, which starred Aamir Khan, Siddharth Narayan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, and British actress Alice Patten, was a tremendous critical success and was ultimately named the most popular film of the year at the 53rd National Film Awards. The film, which follows a British documentary maker who is determined to make a film on the Indian freedom warriors, was selected as India’s official entry for the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category and had a massive societal impact in the country.
The 2009 film Delhi 6 by Rakeysh is about the religion and caste divide in India. There was a 57th National Film Awards ceremony, and this film took home the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration. The movie was well received by critics but failed to make a profit at the box office.
In 2011, Rakeysh and Jeffery Zimbalist collaborated on the documentary Bollywood: The Greatest Love Story Ever Told. The film was well-received and made it onto the 2011 Cannes Film Festival roster. Popularly same year, he oversaw the production of a biography about Milkha Singh, the great Indian sprinter also known as “The Flying Sikh,” which starred Farhan Akhtar. Mirzya, starring Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, was released in 2016, while Mere Pyare Prime Minister is set to be released in 2019. Toofaan, a sports drama starring Farhan Akhtar and Mrunal Thakur, was directed by him in 2021.
