In 2008, he collaborated with his friend, singer/director Vineeth Srinivasan, on his debut album Coffee at MG Road, which led to widespread acclaim. Beginning with the 2009 film Ee Pattanathil Bhootham, he began a career as a film composer. From there, he continued to appear in films such as Malarvaadi Arts Club (2010), Thattathin Marayathu (2012), Thira (2013), Om Shanthi Oshaana (2014), Ormayundo Ee Mukham (2014), Aadu (2015), Jacobinte Swargarajyam (2016), Annmariya Kalippilaanu (2016), Godha (2017), and many more. Even more so, his song “Jimikki Kammal” has been met with widespread praise around the globe. The 2014 Telugu film Saheba Subramanyam was his first, and it was a remake of the Tamil film Thattathin Marayathu. He has also sang in movies directed by Deepak Dev’s music director Deepak Dev, including Urumi, Teja Bhai & Family, and I Love Me.

After seeing his work, Vineeth asked him to join the cast of Malarvaadi Arts Club, his first film as a filmmaker (2010). After then, Shaan frequently worked with Vineeth in his films.

Thattathin Marayathu (2012), directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan, was Shaan’s third film as music director. The score was well-received by the public, and composer M. Jayachandran even said that “Muthuchippi Poloru” was his favourite song of the year. The remake of Thattathin Marayathu, Saheba Subramanyam, marked his Telugu debut in 2014.
