To the best of our knowledge, Shantanu Moitra was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on January 22, 1968 (he will be 54 years old in 2022). They say he’s as watery as his sign, Aquarius. It was in Delhi and Kolkata that Shantanu spent his formative years. Shantanu recalled his time spent in Lake Gardens, Kolkata, with his pishi (aunt) during the summers during an interview. As part of the same conversation, Shantanu revealed that he comes from a musical family in Banaras (now Varanasi) and that his upbringing in an environment where music was constantly present is largely responsible for his decision to pursue music professionally.

Shantanu Moitra Career
Earlier in his career, Shantanu Moitra created album tracks for artists including Shubha Mudgal and Breakthrough, as well as albums like Ab ke Saawan and Mann ki Manjeere: an album of women’s aspirations. His first film contract was for Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, a 2002 Hindi film. Finally, in 2005, his work on the Hindi film Parineeta was widely praised for its score. In the years that followed, Shantanu composed the scores for numerous Bollywood films, including Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), 3 Idiots (2009), Rajneeti (2010), pk (2014), Pink (2016), and Gulabo Sitabo (2017).
The film Antaheen, for which he composed the score in 2008, marked his entry into the Bengali cinema business. Then he went on to appear in a slew of successful Bengali films, including 2012’s Paanch Adhyay, 2011’s Aparajita Tumi, and 2008’s Buno Haansh (2014). Background music for the 2013 Telugu film Naa Bangaaru Talli was composed by him. His music was critically applauded in the Telegu film and received the National Film Awards for best music direction.
