It was in the Indian province of Punjab that Sonu Sood finished his formal education. Upon graduating from college, he joined his father’s showroom staff. Sonu Sood completed his engineering degree at Nagpur University. He took only 5,500 Indian Rupees with him on his modeling trip to Mumbai. His meager starting salary in Mumbai was 4,500 rupees per month, earned at a private firm he had joined during his early days of financial hardship.

With the release of Kallazhagar and Nenjinile in 1999, Sood was exposed to Tamil language cinema for the first time. After that, in 2000, he played the villain in the Telugu movie Hands Up! His Majunu debut was in 2001. Shaheed-E-Azam (2002) marked his acting debut in Hindi films, in which he portrayed Bhagat Singh.

Sood rose to fame playing Abhishek Bachchan’s sibling in Mani Ratnam’s 2004 film Yuva and 2005 film Aashiq Banaya Aapne.
