Vikramaditya Motwane Biography

Vikramaditya Motwane Education

He acquired his primary schooling from the Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai. He did not attend the college as he was interested in writing and working in movies.

Vikramaditya Motwane Early Life

On the sixth of December in 1976 (he would be 46 years old in 2022), Vikramaditya Motwane was born in Mumbai. His alias among his friends is Vikram. When he was 10 years old, his parents split up. He has a Sindhi father and a Bengali mother. After the divorce, his mother obtained a work as a line producer with Shukla Das, a documentary filmmaker and his mother’s cousin.

His mother began hosting and producing a talk show when he was just 17 years old. He used to help her with the show’s research. His uncle, Shukla Das, was the director of the show. He met Sanjay Leela Bhansali then, when Bhansali was an assistant to director Shukla Das. Vikram was an assistant on the chat show for three years, following which he started working with Bhansali as an Assistant Director.

It is said that Vikramaditya Motwane comes from a Hindu Sindhi family. Sunil Motwane, his father, owns an electronics manufacturing plant. Dipa De Motwane, his mother, is a former TV anchor and executive producer. In 2005, he tied the knot with Ishika Mohan. In ninth grade, he fell in love with a classmate named Ishika. After a year of dating, they split up, only to reconcile and remain together to this day. Akira is the name of their daughter as a couple.

Vikramaditya Motwane Career

Vikram’s involvement with movies dates back to his early years. He was an assistant in his mother’s TV show. When he was working on the set of the TV show, he met Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who eventually hired him as an assistant director (AD). He put in two and a half years as an AD at a monthly salary of 2,500 INR. He worked with Bhansali on popular movies such as “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” (1999), “Devdas” (2003), and many more.

Anurag Kashyap’s film “Paanch” featured him as a choreographer (2003). When he wrote the screenplay for the 2007 film “Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal,” he entered the film industry for the first time. He created the script for the film “Udaan” in 2003, but he didn’t find a producer until 2009, thus he didn’t start filming it until 2009. When Anurag Kashyap was eventually convinced to produce his picture in 2009, he just needed 42 days to wrap production. For the first time in 16 years, the “Cannes Film Festival” included an Indian film in its “Un Certain Regard” section with 2010’s Udaan.

Vikram co-founded the film production and distribution company Phantom Films in 2011 alongside Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, and Madhu Mantena. Director’s Company is what the press has labelled the company. They also mentioned that the organisation is a content-driven production outfit. Phantom Films’ debut feature was Vikramaditya Motwane’s “Lootera” (2013), starring Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. It was Vikram’s first big film with the assistance of a full production house. Phantom Films then went on to produce several super hit films such as “Queen”, “Hasee Toh Phasee”, “NH10”, “Udta Punjab”, “Trapped”, “Super 30”, and many more. Phantom Films’ 2014 feature “Queen” won a National Award.

Following the success of their first Netflix Original series, “Sacred Games,” the streaming service recruited Vikram and Anurag to create “Ghoul,” a web series starring Radhika Apte and Manav Kaul. Vikram’s 2016 film “Trapped,” starring Rajkumar Rao, was widely praised by critics and won multiple accolades. Amazon Prime announced the hiring of Vikram, Zoya Akhtar, and Reema Kagti to helm three original series for global premiere on December 16. Both “Made in Heaven” (announced by Zoya Akhtar) and “Stardust” (announced by Motwane) have new directors.

In 2018, “Phantom Films” co-founders Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap announced the studio’s dissolution. The claims of sexual harassment against Vikas Bahl in 2018 amid the “#MeToo India Movement” led to the closure of “Phantom Films,” the production firm he founded. The accusation of harassment by Vikas dates back to 2015, and the woman claims she reported to Anurag about it then, but he did nothing. Vikram tweeted an explanation of his stance and the news that the company will be closing.

Netflix confirmed in September 2018 that they would be renewing Sacred Games for a second season. Although Anurag Kashyap will continue in his role as director, Vikramaditya Motwane has been named the show’s “Showrunner” and “Creative Mind.” Shots involving Saif Ali Khan were directed by Neeraj Ghaywan instead of Vikram. On August 15, 2019, the second season of “Sacred Games” made its debut.
