Actor Vivek Oberoi was born in Hyderabad, India, on September 3, 1976 (he would be 42 years old as of 2018). Inspired by the life and teachings of the Hindu monk Swami Vivekananda, he was given the name Vivek Anand at birth. When he decided to pursue a career in film, he changed his name to Vivek because he felt it would be disrespectful to the monk’s name to engage in romantic on-screen antics. In school, Vivek excelled in many sports. Previously, he was an avid sportsman who played everything from hockey and table tennis to cricket and football. He was even a part of his school’s hockey squad and competed at state and national level.

After completing his education, Vivek travelled to London to attend an acting programme. He was seen by the Director of New York University who took Vivek to New York. Vivek did his Masters in Acting from New York University. Before he became an actor, Oberoi worked as a copywriter.

Vivek was born into a Hindu Khatri family. Suresh Oberoi, a seasoned character actor, and Yashodhara Oberoi are his parents. Meghna Oberoi, his sibling, is a musician and an artist. Both his father and mother are from prosperous Punjabi families.

Priyanka Alva is the daughter of Karnataka Minister Jeevaraj Alva, and on October 29, 2010, Vivek married her. Vivaan, their son, is five years old as of this year (2018), and Ameyaa, their daughter, is three (as in 2018).

Vivek’s first film in Bollywood was Ram Gopal Varma’s “Company.” The movie earned him Filmfare Award for the Best Debut as well as the Best Supporting Actor. The movie earned him $3 million in salary. The action movie Road and Dum followed, both of which featured him in lead roles.

Vivek starred alongside Rani Mukerji in the 2002 film Saathiya. The film was a hit at the box office and his performance was praised by the audience and critics alike. Next, he became a leading man in films like Masti, Yuva, Shootout at Lokhandwala, and Mission Istanbul.

He portrayed the villainous “Kaal” in the 2013 superhero film “Krrish 3.” His performance in the film was very much appreciated. Also, Vivek was a judge on the inaugural season of the TV reality show India’s Best Dramebaaz.

Besides his acting career, Vivek is also active in charitable causes. He took in and rebuilt a village in Tamil Nadu’s Cuddalore district after it was devastated by the 2004 tsunami, earning him the Red and White Bravery Award in 2006. He and his family have established the Yashodhara Oberoi Foundation to help those in need. Vivek also directs the nonprofit organisation One Foundation, whose mission is to end gender inequality by improving access to quality healthcare, education, and economic opportunity for women worldwide.
