As an actor, Rahman made his debut with the Malayalam film “Koodevide” in 1983. He collaborated with nearly every major Malayalam filmmaker at the time. He also appeared in a wide variety of well-known Malayalam films, including Kanamarayathu, Chilambu, Thammil Thammil, Pappan Priyappetta Pappan, Uyarangalil, Vaartha, Upaharam, Poomukhappadiyil Ninneyum Kathu, and dozens more. He shifted his focus to Tamil and Telugu cinema in the early 1990s. Following an extended absence, he appeared in the Malayalam films Mazhavilkoodaram, King Soloman, and Hitlist. In 1986, he made his screen debut in S. A. Chandrasekhar’s Tamil film Nilave Malare. Then he started appearing in Kanne Kaniyamuthe, Vasantha Raagam, and Anbulla Appa, all Tamil films. In 1989, he made a full transition to Tamil and Telugu films, starring in Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal, Puriyaadha Pudhir, and Nee Pathi Naan Pathi.

His debut role in a Telugu film, “Manmadha Saamrajyam,” was in 1984. Later in 1999, he had a role in Suresh Krishna’s Tamil film, “Sangamam.” In the years that followed, he appeared in numerous Tamil films. He returned to acting in the Telugu film “Dhariyam,” after a lengthy absence. Next, he appeared in “Aalayam,” a Telugu film directed by Muthyala Subbaiah. The next year, in 2016, he had a starring role in “Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru,” a detective thriller directed by Karthick Naren. Critics praised his work in the film. In the same year, he appeared as an actor in V.M. Vinu’s “Marupadi,” a Malayalam film. As an actor, he has appeared in more than 150 films in south Indian languages like Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu.
