Verdict
Tamil audience were elated after the trailer release of this movie and when Telugu trailer has released, people started comparing this movie with many other Telugu movies released in the past. To be honest, story of this movie will definitely remind us of many Telugu movies, if you are Telugu movie lover and watched many movies in Telugu earlier. But this story might be something new for the Tamil audience and Vijay fans might enjoy this story line that has all the commercial elements that entertains them in the theatres.
Varisu has very old and boring story line that has been seen in many Telugu movies from the last few years, but what makes the difference is the casting. It feels new to see Vijay in such family entertainer movie. Movie has family emotions, fight sequences, love scenes and everything that a hardcore Vijay fan can enjoy watching on screen. First half of the movie has all routine scenes and uninteresting love track between Vijay and Rashmika. Second half of the movie has few scenes and elevations that could connect with the masses and climax of the movie might not be appealing.
While it comes to performances, Vijay is good to some extent and his mannerisms will entertain his fans. But he failed to impress completely in emotional scenes. Rashmika Mandanna has nothing much to do in the movie and in very few scenes she appeared, she went over the top with unwanted expressions. Prakash Raj and Jayasudha have been offered very routine roles, in which they have impressed many times and these roles are a cake walk for both these actors. Actor Srikanth and Shaam are totally wasted in the movie. Yogibabu will make us laugh with comedy timing in few scenes. All other actors did their part well as required for the story.
Technically Varisu movie looks okay. Songs composed by Thaman are the biggest relief in the movie and his background music will surely make Vijay fans go crazy in the theatres. Cinematography by Karthik Palani is okay to some extent. Praveen KL have tried to edit the movie as much as possible, but could have been better if few more boring scenes from the movie are trimmed. VFX are very cheap. Production values are good.
Director Vamshi Paidipally has delivered an outdated movie once again with few scenes that entertains Vijay fans in theatres. His making doesn’t impress in any way, as the plot he choose is very routine. As the movie has family story included, family audience might enjoy the movie in theatres for this Pongal.
Full packed family entertainer with emotional content, Vijay handling this movie on his shoulder, perfect dance moves, fight and comedy scenes, neat, slow start but second half Thalapathy show, Songs good, Pure treat for family audience, Watchable.
Plus Points:
- Few Elevation Scenes
- Music and Background score
- Family Scenes
Minus Points:
- Routine Plot
- Boring Screenplay
- Vijay-Rashmika Love scenes
Rating: 2.5/5
